Welcome to the Centre for Latin American Studies

The purpose of the Centre for Latin American Studies is to create an environment for research, teaching, and debate on Latin America at the University of Copenhagen across a wide range of disciplines, including history, sociology, politics, anthropology, language, literary studies and arts, and to contribute to the collaboration between researchers and students from other universities in Denmark and elsewhere who work with Latin America.

The centre also places great value on the maintenance and expansion of its institutional and personal links with the academic communities in Latin America.

LahuachacaTeaching, workshops, seminars and guest lectures

The centre organizes workshops, seminars and guest lectures about a variety of themes and is also responsible for the teaching programme on Latin America (MA level for students studying Spanish or Portuguese), offered at the Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen

The Center is responsible for the Profile in Latin American Studies (KA Tilvalg) (MA level for students studying Spanish or Portuguese), offered at the Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen

Other Latin American networks in Denmark

The Centre collaborates with the Centre for Latin American Studies at the University of Aarhus and with individual researchers specialized on Latin America at different universities and research institutions in Denmark.

International collaboration

The Centre for Latin American Studies has  agreements for collaboration with:

The Freie Universität Berlin. In January 2014 the University of Copenhagen and the Freie Universität Berlin concluded an Erasmus agreement on the exchange of short time lecturers in the area of Latin American Studies. By this, the Center for Latin American Studies and the Berlin based Institute for Latin American Studies (http://www.lai.fu-berlin.de/en) will strengthen the dialogue in the institutions common fields of teaching and research, as well as extend the existing networks to new partners.”

El Colegio de Sonora. In 2013 the Faculty of Humanities, the Centre for Latin American Studies and the Colegio de Sonora, Mexico made an agreement for research collaboration and a teachers' exchange program.
